Through her artworks Nesa Gschwend has been focusing on the transformation and ambivalence of the body and its stages in life over a long period of time. These are the foundations of her visual and performative creations.
The materials used—textiles, plants, hair and very often wax—play a central role in her explorations.
Based on used fabrics Nesa Gschwend develops a system of
lines and bands that she repeatedly connects, ties, layers, cuts and reassembles in new ways. Her works, evoke associations with a complex concept of «cell – head – knot – body– skin – fabric». The artist creates installations combining textile panels, drawings, embroidered paintings, videos and objects that are fully integrated with the given spatial conditions. Janine Schmutz
In ihren künstlerischen Arbeiten setzt sich Nesa Gschwend seit längerem mit der Transformation und Ambivalenz des Körpers und seiner Lebenszyklen auseinander. Diese bilden die Grundlage ihres bildnerischen und performativen Schaffens. Die verwendeten Materialien – Textilien, Pflanzen, Haare und sehr häufig Wachs spielen in der Interaktion eine zentrale Rolle.
Ausgehend von gebrauchten Stoffen schafft Nesa Gschwend ein System aus Linien und Bändern, die sie immer wieder neu miteinander verbindet, verknotet, überlagert, zerschneidet und zusammenfügt. Sie provoziert mit ihren Arbeiten Assoziationen zum Bedeutungskomplex «Zelle – Kopf – Knäuel – Körper – Hülle – Gewebe». Damit schafft sie ganze Raum-Installationen aus textilen Paneelen, Zeichnungen, bestickten Bildern, Videos und Objekten, die sich in die räumlichen Gegebenheiten eingliedern. Janine Schmutz
